Add directly to the cooling circuit when the engine is warm. Only fill into the expansion tank if coolant is flowing through it. Then let the engine run for at least 10 minutes until the thermostat opens and the heater noticeably emits heat. Then switch off the engine, check the coolant again and top up if necessary
